I saw two movies today – OMG, stop the presses. I finally got some “KB Time” and took advantage of it. Bolstering the box office numbers for this weekend’s biggest contenders, I saw them both. There are some interesting parallels, in terms of the costumes, and here’s how I see it:

IATSE locals 705 (Motion Picture Costumers) and 892 (Costume Designers Guild) are having a yard sale coming up on Saturday, August 29th at Western Costume. This sale is open to the public. We had one of these yard sales last year, and the goods on sale were amazing. I bought a hot-pink marabou capelet for my little cousin for about $5. Where else in the world are you going to find cooler yard sale items than at a yard sale hosted by costume people??!?! Nowhere!!
Here are the details:

Hello, frocktalkers – an interesting article today in the LA Times – the shirts from Brokeback Mountain (costumes deigned by Marit Allen) are on display at the Autry Center for Western Heritage in beautiful Griffith Park. It’s a nice article about these important, sentimental, iconic costumes… read on…

And stay tuned for another dueling banjos review this weekend – it’s a real humdinger!
One of my Frocktalk spies came upon these fabulous costumes in the return rack at Western Costume. Aren’t they AWESOME?! Evidently these were used in a play in London. I can’t seem to get the back story as to who designed them, or what play it was, but they appear to be of a vague Napoleonesque vibe. How cool that they colored this fabric with MARKERS to get the texture?? My spy tells me that the fabric is a heavy canvas, almost a cotton duck, and that all of the buttons, embellishments, etc., are drawn in with markers. Inspired!!!
