The focus of FrockTalk is not to comment on the big flashy costume dramas, but to call attention to the seemingly ordinary costume design work in film that silently and persuasively moves the audience toward understanding the characters. Costume design for motion pictures is an art form that deserves more recognition than it usually gets. Fancy, pretty costumes do not always equal effective, appropriate costumes. 892/705 Artisan Bazaar: SUNDAY!!!

Hey Frocktalkers!  If you’re in town on Sunday, please stop by the Artisan Bazaar hosted by the Costume Designers Guild!  I will have a booth there, and will be selling all kinds of things, including quilts, pantyhampers, jewelry, sketches and paintings!  Chachi and I will be there from 9A – 3P, and we look forward to seeing you!  Get a jump on your holiday shopping!!

Silverlake Art/Craft/Vintage Sale this Saturday!

Hello, Frocktalkers!!  Just wanted to let you know that I will be selling my wares at the Silverlake Art/Craft/Vintage sale this Saturday (June 11) at the Micheltorena Street Elementary School, 1511 Micheltorena St., LA 90026. It starts at 10 AM, and there are going to be all kinds of vendors – new stuff, vintage stuff, and FOOD TRUCKS! It’s going to be fun, and I look forward to seeing you there!  I will have all kinds of things for you – handmade bags, pantyhampers, vegan cookbooks, jewelry, quilts – stop on by and say hello!  And thanks for your support!

705 & 892 YARD SALE!!!

IATSE locals 705 (Motion Picture Costumers) and 892 (Costume Designers Guild) are having a yard sale coming up on Saturday, August 29th at Western Costume.  This sale is open to the public.  We had one of these yard sales last year, and the goods on sale were amazing.  I bought a hot-pink marabou capelet for my little cousin for about $5.  Where else in the world are you going to find cooler yard sale items than at a yard sale hosted by costume people??!?!  Nowhere!!

Comic Con: Day One

Comic Con kicked off with a bang today.  The exhibition hall was again wall-to-wall people, clamoring for glimpses of the newest, coolest, and most hard-to-find bits of popular culture.  Arriving at 12:30 – yes, late, I know, but I missed my train – I strolled the convention center floor in pursuit of good stories to share with you, Frocktalk readers.  And let me tell you, I was not disappointed.
