Welcome to FrockTalk, the web’s only costume-based movie review site. The goal of Frocktalk is to shed light on the magnificent artistry of costume design in motion pictures. Reviews on this site are written by working costume designers in the entertainment industry – people who know, better than anyone, what it takes to make it all happen. The focus of FrockTalk is not to comment on the big flashy costume dramas, but to call attention to the seemingly ordinary costume design work in film that silently and persuasively moves the audience toward understanding the characters. Costume design for motion pictures is an art form that deserves more recognition than it usually gets. Fancy, pretty costumes do not always equal effective, appropriate costumes. The art of the costume is in letting the audience know who the character is, before the actor even has a chance to open his mouth. Read on, and enjoy. ** CAUTION: ALL REVIEWS CONTAIN SPOILERS! **

It’s… ALIVE!!!!

Frocktalkers, I’ve had a long hiatus from writing regular articles for this fine website.  Work took over my life for a number of months.  I lost time, and lots of it – specifically free time, pondering time, thinking time, writing time.  I am done with that work now, and moving forward, I have a new plan for the site.

I’ve been able to keep up pretty well with Twitter @Frocktalk – it’s where I will post “Wow, look at that!” kinds of things, and tales from my work.  I will alert you to interesting articles about our business, interviews relevant to costumes and the like.  Twitter is something I can do from my mobile phone while I’m waiting for a meeting to begin, or waiting to an actor to arrive for his/her fitting. 140 characters is a lot easier to compose than 140 sentences!

Frocktalk.com will be reserved for interviews and special pieces that I will write probably far less frequently than before.  My life is devoted to this art form, and as such sometimes the “doing” squeezes out my ability to think, ponder and write about it.

Thank you as always for your understanding, and stay tuned for some great interviews!  Please follow along at @Frocktalk, and I thank you for your continued readership!
