Welcome to FrockTalk, the web’s only costume-based movie review site. The goal of Frocktalk is to shed light on the magnificent artistry of costume design in motion pictures. Reviews on this site are written by working costume designers in the entertainment industry – people who know, better than anyone, what it takes to make it all happen. The focus of FrockTalk is not to comment on the big flashy costume dramas, but to call attention to the seemingly ordinary costume design work in film that silently and persuasively moves the audience toward understanding the characters. Costume design for motion pictures is an art form that deserves more recognition than it usually gets. Fancy, pretty costumes do not always equal effective, appropriate costumes. The art of the costume is in letting the audience know who the character is, before the actor even has a chance to open his mouth. Read on, and enjoy. ** CAUTION: ALL REVIEWS CONTAIN SPOILERS! **

Update from KB Land, 4-1-14

It’s been crazy over here in KB land. I just started back on season two of Sleepy Hollow. It feels like I just got home, and now I’m turning around again for more. Life in this business is tricky that way. The work bleeds us dry.

I wish I could give you some insight or some great movie reviews about things I’ve seen, but the truth is: I haven’t seen a movie in months. I’ve been trying to catch up with friends and family and stuff myself with all of this fellowship because I won’t be seeing most of these people for eight long months.

That’s right; we’re back in North Carolina for what looks like the rest of the year… and psychologically, that is pretty daunting. I love my crew and they are all awesome people, but the diversity of my life, in terms of friends and family (not to mention culture, downtime, and KB time), whittles down to nothing when faced with so much time away from home. It’s a battle, folks, a real mental battle.

I’m going to try to be better about updating you about the hijinks on Sleepy Hollow – without giving anyone any spoilers or upsetting the network, naturally. We are already working maniacally to make things 100% awesome for you fans of the show. This year will present new challenges and probably some “How the F are we going to do this?!” kinds of moments, but that’s what keeps it exciting.

What matters to me most this year, however, is making a constant effort to improve the quality of my life when I am on a marathon job like this. No more 100-hour weeks. It’s not healthy. Please remind me of this on Twitter @frocktalk and keep me in check. Your support means more to me that you can ever imagine. When I’ve had a real butt-kicker of a day, I scan through my Twitter feed and remind myself of why we do this: to bring joy and delight to all of you out there who love the show. I’m so grateful for your support, and I just want to let you know.

So, stand by for updates as I can get them to you. I’d also like to see some movies (specifically Budapest Hotel and Cesar Chavez) and talk about their costumes. Let’s see how much I can accomplish in the next few weeks… cross your fingers!! Thanks again for your support and for reminding me what it’s all about. Stay tuned for new episodes of SLEEPY HOLLOW on FOX sometime soon! (I don’t know when yet, but will let you know as soon as I can!)
